Day 15 of “A 30 Day Guide to Spring Cleaning“.
Sometimes it’s the very small things that can make a huge difference. If your door knobs, faucets, drain stops, and other miscellaneous hardware art dingy or dirty, it can actually make a fairly solid impact to how your overall room looks.
The great part is, household hardware is super easy to polish and get looking great again! Take a look at the easy steps below.
I know I can’t be the only one that has problems with their kids getting toothpaste all over their sink, faucets, mirrors, and everything else on the bathroom sink, this guide will help you to shine those hardware pieces up like new!
What to clean:
- Door handles/knobs
- Cabinet knobs
- Faucets and sink stops
- Light switch covers
- Outlet covers (please do this carefully)
- Any other miscellaneous hardware
Supplies needed:
- Recommended:
- Alternative:
- Dish cloth and dish soap, bucket, microfiber cloth to dry, and a polishing product (optional) like Brasso ‘paid link’
Polishing Household Hardware
Polishing your household hardware is actually quite simple, I am going to give you a step by step using the products I have recommended above from Norwex. I love these products, and they last typically up to 10 years with good care (even the cleaning paste unless you use it all the time).
Step 1: Use your envirocloth (or soap and water in a bucket if you go that route) wet it down, and wipe down the surface until it is clean. If your surface has oil and grime build up, or hard water build up, wipe your envirocloth on the cleaning paste, and use the cleaning paste to scrub off the grime and really polish up your hardware. Note: I use the cleaning paste on all faucets to remove any possible water spots from where water was sitting.
Step 2: Use your window cloth (or microfiber towel if using alternative solution) and dry off the surface. The window cloth will polish your surface, so if there are any streaks left, just simply wipe over it again!
That’s it, you’re all done! Unless you are using the alternative method, then please see the optional step 3 below the before and afters.
Step 3: **Optional** With using the alternative method, for best results you will want to use some type of metal polishing agent like Brasso ‘paid link’. You will want to use microfiber cloths that are soft and don’t scratch. Apply the Brasso to your hardware surface, rub it in with a microfiber cloth, and then buff the surface with a clean microfiber cloth.
**Please use caution when cleaning light switch covers and outlet covers not to get water near any entrances of the electrical components, including cracks by the light switch, or the outlets themselves!**
