Beautiful Succulent Table Centerpiece | A Neutral and Year Round Centerpiece Idea

Give your table a beautiful centerpiece without the hassle of changing it out for each season with this year round succulent table centerpiece!

I used to really enjoy switching out my centerpiece for each different season. I enjoyed the refresh and the new look that this brought. After I had kids, my whole perspective on decorating changed. After a few years of struggling to have time to switch out my seasonal décor, and a couple of Christmas trees that stayed up until March or April, I decided it was time for change. When I say a change, I have decided to focus on year round décor instead of seasonal décor. In an effort to change my centerpiece to follow this method, I created this succulent table centerpiece. It’s neutral décor, and it’s a year round table centerpiece solution!

This succulent table centerpiece is super easy to make, and can be personalized to your taste so easily! All you will need is about 30 minutes of time, the supplies listed below, and your creativity!

Creating A Succulent Table Centerpiece

Creating this succulent table centerpiece is really simple once you have decided on the pieces you will be putting together. The longest part of this centerpiece for me, was deciding which faux succulents to use. Once you have decided on your supplies, it’s as simple as placing the items and creating your masterpiece.

Step 1

Once you have all your supplies selected, the first step in creating this beautiful succulent table centerpiece is to cut and place your floral foam. I wasn’t able to find floral foam that was the exact size I needed, so I used a utility knife to score the areas I needed cut off.

It may be hard to cut all the way through the floral foam, but if you make a line as deep as possible, you can break off the pieces you intend to remove. Once you have cut your floral foam to size, place it inside your dough bowl. You can see I have left room on the edges. This is optional, and I will discuss it in the next step.

Leaving space around the edges of the floral foam is optional, but allows room for fillers noted in the next step.

Step 2 (optional)

After placing your floral foam, you will want to add your filler around the edges. This step is optional, but I do highly recommend it. This step helps address two things: covering the foam from a visual aspect, and holding the foam in place. I chose to add the filler to help give this a more natural aesthetic. You will simply place your selected river rocks around the empty edges of the floral foam on the sides and ends.

As an alternative, if you are worried about the foam moving, you can also use double sided tape on the bottom side to secure it in place.

Optional: river rock around the foam allows to hide the foam and keep it in place.

Step 3

If you are skipping step number 2, or if you didn’t, step 3 will be the same. Now that your base is formed, you will need to add the moss. The moss gives this beautiful succulent table centerpiece a very natural and textured feel. If you didn’t use the filler in step 2, you will need more moss in this step because it will need to fill in any gaps or edges. I really love the Reindeer Preserved Moss, it comes in some gorgeous color variations that can give your moss a lovely pop!

Step 4

After placing your moss and covering your foam, the next step will be to add your faux succulents. Your faux succulents need to have a stem on them. Most of the stems will likely be too long, so you will need wire cutters to cut them down to an appropriate size. You can either do this by the thickness of your foam, or by measuring the height of the dough bowl used.

Determine how you would like to place your succulents, and then cut the stems accordingly. If you are putting them in at an angle, the stem can be longer. I moved mine around quite a few times before finding their final placements. The more you move them, the more you disturb the moss, so try to have some type of plan before sticking them in the foam.

You will need to push the stems into the floral foam so the faux succulents are held in place. If you have multiple different colors, try not to bunch all of one color into one place. Spread out the colors evenly, if possible.

Once my succulents were placed, I also added a few river rocks to the top of the moss. This was an aesthetic choice, and is not required. I like the natural look it helped to give the centerpiece as a whole.

Step 5 of this DIY is optional, so you can either stop here, or you can move on to the next step. I didn’t complete step 5, as I am not sure if this centerpiece will be my permanent placement for my dough bowl.

Step 5 (optional)

Step 5 is completely optional, but it will help to hold your centerpiece together. Once you are happy with your succulent and moss arrangement, use a Clear Acrylic Coating spray that you can spray over the entire centerpiece. Be sure to use the Clear Acrylic Coating spray according to the manufacturer directions. You will want to spray the clear coat over the entire centerpiece contents, and may want multiple coats. The key point here is to coat the moss well enough that it won’t move or have pieces fall out.

This step will need to be completed either outside, or with a drop cloth under the centerpiece. Any time you use a spray paint or coating, it will get in more places than you desire. Be cautious if completing this step inside, and use protection of nearby surfaces.

Final Thoughts Beautiful Succulent Table Centerpiece

You can really make this centerpiece any way that you would like, or with whatever materials you prefer. I have listed the materials I used, as well as my suggestions on how to make yours look similar to mine. Craft stores and Home Goods are two other very good places to get these items for making this.

The point of this beautiful succulent table centerpiece is to provide a natural option for a table centerpiece, and something that you can use for a centerpiece year round. I love seasonal décor, but sometimes families just don’t have the time to switch things out year round. This provides a gorgeous option that is timeless and functional.
