I love making holiday traditions with my family, no matter how small they are. We always try to find something fun and creative to do to build anticipation to the upcoming holiday for the kids.

With Easter, finding creative activities is super easy, as egg coloring is a widely known activity for Easter time, and there are so many different options and kits that you can try for decorating Easter eggs. When typically decorate Easter eggs every year, but another activity that allows the kids to be super creative is cookie decorating. They can choose their colors, choose their design, and just go WILD (which is what they are best at).

I found a cookie decorating kit at the store, and decided to give it a try, and it went fabulously! Of course, you can make your own cookies and frosting, or do a more detailed activity, but for my young kids and our lack of sweets eating, this Wilton Ready-to-Decorate Easter Decorating Kit worked out perfectly.

My son had a blast choosing different colors and shapes to decorate, and using the different sprinkle options that come inside the kit. When getting a kit like this, keep in mind, these are pre-made and pre-cut sugar cookies (and they are pretty hard!). They are not the Mama’s home made cookies, but they worked perfectly for my young ones!

My husband got involved with the decorating of these cookies, and our regular Easter egg dying as well. Although our cookies did not look ANYTHING like the box designs, they turned out great and we all had a blast decorating.

For our eggs this year we tried two different types of dye kits: a shake and dye speckle, and a foam color. Our favorite was definitely the foam coloring kit, although the shake and dye one started out fun, the rice quickly absorbed the dye and wasn’t transferring the color to the eggs any longer. The foam dye kit was a blast, but be-ware of dyed hands and clothes!

With the speckled shake dye kit, there were different colors of dye available and the purpose was to mix the dye with rice in a baggie. Once the dye was mixed you could just drop in an egg and shake it around to speckle the egg with the color. The first egg was beautiful! After one or two eggs were done the rice had started to absorb the dye, and we had to keep adding water to liquify the dye which in turn just diluted it.

With the foam color egg kit it gave instructions on how to make the foam. We made the foam on a cookie sheet and added the dye sporadically throughout the foam to allow for a ty dye type affect. This was so much fun, and the kids really enjoyed playing in the foam with the eggs. Unfortunately and disappointingly, I did not get any pictures of this due to the mess!

I would love to hear about the different activities that all of you do during Easter and spring time! If you have any creative or fun ideas, feel free to leave a comment below!
