Only 3 ingredients! Bring the tropics home to you this summer with an easy and delicious Piña Colada on the Rocks. Try it on the rocks, or frozen!
The Perfect Piña Colada
My favorite drink is a Piña Colada, I love the combination of the pineapple and coconut flavors, and who doesn’t like rum?!?! Well… there might be a few people but Jack Sparrow made it seem so enticing!
Anyways, the thing I have found most disappointing is that none of the mixes taste like a true Piña Colada. They are always off and fake tasting, leaving a weird aftertaste with artificial flavors. The worst part, most restaurants use the Piña Colada mix, so it’s likely you won’t find a great Piña Colada at a restaurant either.
I have spent a lot of time and research trying to make the best Piña Colada recipe that is comparable to the ones I had in Mexico, and I finally figured it out last summer! I figured I should share it with you all, in case someone is working just as hard as I have to figure out a perfect Piña Colada.

Ingredients
- Cream of Coconut
- Recommendation: I prefer Coco Lopez for the flavor, but Coco Re’al also has good flavor and is much more convenient in a squeeze bottle)
- Spiced Rum
- Blue Chair Bay is great! But whatever you choose.
- Pineapple Juice
- Recommendation: I truly enjoy the Dole 8 oz cans, as they store easy, pour easy, and are the perfect amount.
Equipment:
- Shaker or Blender

The steps for this are super easy!
- Fill your shaker with ice (extra large cubes, fill to the top, smaller cubes about 3/4 full)
- Pour in cream of coconut (amount in recipe below)
- Pour in pineapple juice (amount in recipe below)
- Top off with rum (amount in recipe below)
- Shake well (until your shaker is very cold)
- Strain over ice in a cup
If you don’t have a shaker, and you want to make this frozen, put a large cup of ice in a blender and add the same ingredients. Blend it until it’s smooth.
This recipe makes about 2-3 cups. We have doubled and tripled this before, and put it into a pitcher with a mixing tool so we could just stir it up well and pour it over ice. It makes it super easy to make large batches!
If you love Piña Colada’s as much as I do, please share this recipe, or pin it for later! You won’t want to lose this one.

Easy and Delicious Piña Colada
Equipment
- 1 Drink Shaker
Ingredients
- 1/4 Cup Cream of Coconut
- 6 Oz Can Pineapple Juice You can also use a large can, but the 6 oz cans are super easy for measurement and pouring
- 1/3 – 1/2 Cup Spiced Rum Adjust this to taste and room in your shaker
- Ice
Instructions
- Fill your drink shaker with ice, about 3/4 full for small ice cubes or to the top with large ice cubes (refrigerator door sized cubes)
- Pour in your cream of coconut
- Pour in your pineapple juice
- Top it off with your rum (adjust to taste and room in your shaker)
- Put the lid on and shake until your shaker is very cold, at least 30 seconds or longer
- Use the shakers strainer to strain this over a cup of ice.
- If you want to make this frozen instead, put a large cup of ice in the blender and use all the same ingredients, blend until smooth.
- Frozen will not make as many drinks, since you aren't straining it over ice.

Ohh! This is a real summer drink and is one of my favourites. It sounds so simple to make, I thought there was more to it. x
It’s is by far my favorite! I thought there would be more to making them as well, which is why I struggled through fake tasting ones for so long. I haven’t found anything to beat this recipe in my books. 🙂 Thanks for checking it out.
