Halloween Snack Mix | Simple and Delicious

This Halloween Snack Mix is great for a Halloween party, or just to have around the house. Give it a try this season!

I will admit, I am not very creative when it comes to making cute treats. I try my best, but usually they end up looking like the “fail” pictures you see when people try to re-create Pinterest ideas. This Halloween snack mix really helped to provide a simple and delicious treat that has Halloween vibes. With this recipe you can still have a festive treat without the creative chaos and detail.

About This Halloween Snack Mix

Chocolate Chips and Candy Melts

I used milk chocolate chips and black colored vanilla candy melts. You can also you semi-sweet chocolate, dark chocolate, white chocolate… whatever you prefer.

When you melt your baking chips you can either do it in a double boiler, or in the microwave with a microwave safe bowl. I don’t own a double boiler, so I melted mine in the microwave. The key is to heat them in very small increments, such as 15 seconds, stirring between each interval. You want the chips to be just melted, even with some chunks left (just mix them in until they melt). If you overheat the chips in the microwave they will start to burn and chunk together, it will never become smooth after that.

Use a spoon to drizzle the melted chocolate and candy melts over the pretzels.

Toppings

I used Reese’s Pieces and Halloween sprinkles for the toppings on this. You can use whatever you please, but this is what gave this snack mix the Halloween feeling! I linked some Halloween sprinkles that have little eyeballs in the ingredients above, I highly recommend this mix!

How To Clean Melted Chocolate

The easiest way I have found to clean melted chocolate chips from a bowl is to do it before it dries. I have heard of methods where you freeze it and it breaks out. I’ve tried this without much success.

My suggestion is to take paper towel and wipe out the remaining chocolate as best as you can. There should only be a very thin layer of melted chocolate remaining in your bowl after wiping.

Once your bowl is mostly wiped out, place this bowl under hot tap water and allow it to fill at least half way. Use a dish rag or paper towel to wipe the edges again with the water inside. This will dilute the rest of the chocolate and remove it from the bowl sides. After that, your bowl should be cleaned out entirely!

Halloween Snack Mix

A fun and festive treat for the Halloween season, party, or just to have around the house!
Prep Time 5 minutes
Cook Time 5 minutes
Refrigerate 30 minutes
Course Dessert, Snack
Cuisine American
Servings 10 people

Equipment

  • 1 Large Baking Sheet
  • Parchment Paper

Ingredients

  • 3-4 Cups Peanut Butter Filled Pretzels
  • 1 Cup Milk Chocolate Chips
  • 1 Cup Black Candy Melts
  • 1/3 Cup Reese's Pieces plus or minus as desired
  • Sprinkles to taste/as desired

Instructions

  • Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Place the peanut butter filled pretzels evenly in a single layer on the parchment paper.
  • Place the chocolate chips in a bowl, and the candy melts in a separate bowl. Place one bowl at a time in the microwave, and heat for 15 second intervals stirring in between each. Be sure to stop heating before the chocolate/candy is fully melted (there should still be a couple chunks).
  • Mix the melted chocolate/candy until the remaining small chunks have melted and it's a smooth consistency.
  • Using a spoon, drizzle the chocolate over the pretzels, using your desired amount. I didn't use the full cup of chocolate or candy melts, but if your bowl is too empty it will harden too quickly and you won't be able to drizzle it.
  • Repeat the above step with the candy melts.
  • Immediately after drizzling the chocolate/candy melts, start adding the Reese's Pieces and sprinkles. This way they will harden into the chocolate and candy. Don't wait too long to add these items.
  • Place the baking sheet in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes, to allow everything to harden.
  • Break up the mixture and store in a covered bowl at room temperature, or in the refrigerator.
